It’s perfect for Holiday meals that are just around the corner but it also makes a great addition to an array of dishes. It’s a healthier and lighter alternative to the fat-based gravy, while maintaining the thick and savory element! Even better, this recipe only takes 10-minutes to make, so let me show you how!

How to Make Simple Classic Vegan Gravy

This 5-ingredient, 10- minute gravy starts by heating up your favorite vegetable or mushroom broth in a heavy bottom pot with some soy sauce or tamari and the spices listed below. As it begins to simmer start whisking in small amounts of flour, continue to whisk while the gravy thickens. Finally, remove from the heat and serve immediately on top of your vegan mashed potatoes!

Can you Freeze Gravy?

Yes! You can freeze the gravy in an air tight container for a few months and once you are ready to use it, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then re-heat and serve!

What else can you use Gravy on?

Gravy can make a great addition to so many dishes, but some of my favorites are mashed potatoes, fries (for a Canadian poutine), lentil loaf and other meat alternatives.

Can a switch up this Simple Classic Vegan Gravy?

You can easily switch up this gravy by adding some additional spices such as rosemary, thyme, or sage. It can also be made Gluten-free by using Tamari instead of soy sauce and Gluten-free flour!

Simple Classic Vegan Gravy

This Classic Vegan Gravy is easy to make and is the perfect addition to an array of dishes!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Mushroom Broth sub Vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp All- Purpose Flour sub Gluten-free Flour
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce sub Tamari
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Agave (optional) for a touch of sweetness

Instructions
 

  • In a medium size saucepan, combine broth, soy sauce, garlic powder and onion powder.
  • Heat on medium-high while slowly whisking in the flour, continue to whisk as the gravy begins to simmer and thicken (approximately 5 minutes).
  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes and garnish!
